Our most frequently asked questions about Google PPC Ads

At The PPC People, we understand that PPC advertising can raise a lot of questions even if you’ve been doing Google PPC advertising for a while. Google ads are complex, with multiple campaign types and targeting options and can be confusing if you’re not an expert in it so please take a look at our PPC FAQs below:

What is PPC?
PPC stands for “pay-per-click” which is a form of online advertising that’s used to drive traffic to websites in order to generate online sales or leads via Google’s platforms.
Where are PPC ads shown?
Depending on your campaign type and targeting, your PPC ads can show anywhere online from Google search, shopping and YouTube to any of the 2 million websites in Google’s search partner network.
Should I do PPC advertising?
PPC advertising is suitable for almost every industry and type of business but of course, it depends on individual business circumstances. If you sell or offer a product or service that people search for online, it’s likely that your business is right for PPC advertising.
Why should I pay for PPC advertising?
Unlike SEO which is often a longer-term search engine strategy, paying for PPC advertising will drive traffic to your website instantly.
How long does PPC take to see results?
How long it takes to see PPC results depends on multiple factors but your PPC ads will be visible almost immediately once Google has reviewed and approved your campaign and you should see results within the first few weeks.
Can you take over an existing PPC account or do I need a new one?
As long as you have admin permissions we can take over an existing PPC account that someone else has been managing. When we do, we’ll do a full audit on all current campaigns before deciding whether we need to start from scratch, or whether we can just optimise your existing campaigns.
What does Google PPC ads setup include?
We will get to know your business, conduct keyword research, write ad copy and ensure conversion tracking is working then set your campaigns up depending on which campaign type is best for your business and goals.
Why can’t I see my PPC ads when I search for them?
There are several reasons why you may not be able to see your ads. Your balance might be exhausted for the day, your internet’s IP address may be in a different location to your physical location or if you’re repeatedly searching for your ad and not clicking it, it may not appear again as Google will think you’re not interested and won’t show it again.
Can you guarantee PPC results?
Whilst we can’t guarantee exact results like a certain amount of leads or return on ad spend, we guarantee we will work our hardest to get you the best results for your budget and industry.
How many campaigns, ad groups and ads will I get?
It depends on your budget and offering. Larger budgets will give us more breathing room to split your budget and set up more campaigns that are more highly targeted.
How much will I pay per click?
How much you will pay per click is a relatively open question as it depends on a couple of factors including how many people are searching for the keywords we’re using and how many other advertisers are bidding on the same keywords.
How many conversions, sales or leads will I get?
Whilst our goal is always to get you the most amount of conversions as possible for as little spend, it is impossible for us to guarantee the amount of conversions you will get through your PPC campaigns.
What optimisations do you make?
Our weekly or fortnightly optimisations cover everything from general account health checks to ensure conversions are tracking, to checking Google’s recommendations, ensuring your ads are only appearing for highly relevant keywords and optimising ad copy.
Can I make changes to my own PPC ads?
At The PPC People, we are open and transparent meaning you will have full access to your PPC account but we’d rather you check with us before making any changes yourself. Making changes without the expertise can potentially be damaging to your account and undo the work that we’ve done.
I got an email from a Google Ads rep - should I schedule a call with them?
Whilst you can speak to a Google Ads rep if they send you an email, we would highly recommend you speak with us before making any changes. Whilst Google Ad reps are knowledgeable about the Google Ads platform, they will likely ask you to apply a variety of recommendations which could have a detrimental effect on your account because ultimately their goal is to get you to spend more. If you do have a call with Google Ads, we would ask you not to make any changes and run any suggestions by us first. Whilst Google Ads reps are knowledgeable about Google Ads, they often make generalised recommendations as they’re unaware of your wider account strategy which at times can be damaging.
What can I advertise on Google Ads?
You can advertise almost anything on Google Ads unless it’s illegal, dangerous or dishonest. We will be able to advise whether you can or can’t advertise a specific product or service but if you want to check first, you can view all of Google Ads’ policies on their website.
What budget do I need for Google Ads?
The answer to this question really is “How long is a piece of string?” because the sky is the limit. We will be able to help recommend budgets based on the type of product, campaign and locations you are targeting.
Is PPC better than SEO?
It’s hard to do a like-for-like comparison because SEO can be a slightly longer campaign type with a lot of different moving parts but if you have the budget to invest and want instant results, PPC is the way to go.
Do I need a website to do PPC advertising?
Yes, you do need a website for PPC advertising so that users can either purchase from you or fill in a contact form to get in touch with you. At The PPC People, we can design and build a landing page for your business to be used on PPC advertising to get you started whilst our sister company Website Design Ltd. are experts in building full eCommerce websites.
Do I need a separate landing page for PPC?
Generally speaking, no. As long as your website is already working and set up to track conversions (which we can help with), you don’t need to have a separate landing page although some industries and campaigns could benefit from this.
What is a good conversion rate?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer because “good” very much depends on your industry, what you’re offering and your campaign type but the average conversion rate for PPC is around 2.75%. A great conversion rate would be over 10%, but we’d never promise we can get you there!
My business only operates Monday to Friday. Can Google Ads be scheduled?
We can absolutely set Google ads to only run during specific times, whether it’s 9-5 Monday to Friday and we can even ensure they don’t run during your lunch break.
Can you stop my Google Ads from showing for certain words?
Yes, when optimising your campaigns we routinely carry out search term checks to ensure you’re only appearing for highly relevant keywords and if there are any specific search terms you don’t want to compete for, we can add those to the negative keyword list too.
Can I specify which locations I advertise in?
The world is your oyster with Google Ads as it allows you to choose the exact locations you advertise in, whether it’s a town, a city, a country or worldwide. We can even select locations that you specifically don’t want your ads shown in.
How much time will you need to manage my PPC campaigns?
The number of hours we suggest is usually defined by your budget. With a lower budget below around £300 a month, you’ll have fewer campaigns to manage and therefore we will need less time to manage your account. If you think you want or need us to spend more time managing your account, we are flexible and will be able to move you up to the next package and similarly, if we feel that we need more time to effectively manage your account we will suggest that you move up to the next package although this is not mandatory.
Can I receive phone calls through Google Ads?
You can receive phone calls through Google Ads as well as online sales and contact form enquiries. We can add a phone call extension to your ads as well as running call-only ads. We can also track phone calls through your website so you don’t miss a single conversion!
Do you only work with UK-based clients?
No, we’re happy to work with clients from anywhere in the world but we can only really manage campaigns in English as translation platforms aren’t 100% reliable.
