As a relatively new business, this client approached us within less than four months of the website going live, in search of an agency that could help get them off the ground and to make sure the campaigns were operating profitably. Using our client’s prior knowledge in the industry, we set about promoting their range of competitively priced, high-quality products for koi pond owners and hobbyists.

The client had expressed concerns with their current agency as their existing campaigns were reporting almost double the revenue. This not only makes reporting difficult but provides Google’s algorithms with inaccurate data which can negatively impact performance. With a 10% – 40% profit margin in mind, we got to work.

Implementation

Ensuring revenue was being tracked accurately was our first port of call. The website is built using Shopify, a platform that we work with frequently, so this was a relatively quick fix for us.

We then set about creating a new campaign and by making use of the limited data available to us, it was clear that the Google Shopping network would be where we focused our efforts, pausing any high spending, low converting Search campaigns.

Making use of the Asset Group functionality of the Performance Max campaign type, we were able to tailor image and text assets to specific brands and collections of products with the aim of improving the ROAS and increasing total revenue generated.

Results

After just one month of management, we were able to increase their ROAS by 152%, with revenue steadily increasing for three months in a row. The koi industry is heavily seasonal and without any yearly comparison data available to us, our frequent reporting and catch-ups are vital to plan for the months ahead. Ensuring that we’re maintaining a consistent level of performance, despite the fluctuations in search volume.
